Tailgate How To: Submitting an article
Tuesday, 03 February 2009 11:18

Tailgate365 is all about news and content covering all sports.  What we LOVE are user-submitted articles giving us their take and some sports news at the same time.  Why not join in and submit something to us?

This tutorial will cover the basic steps to submitting an article to us the correct way.

  1. You have to log in to the site.  Yes I know, I know...it is basic, but you must be a member of the tailgate365 community to submit articles to us.  It is free, quick and easy so why not?
  2. Once logged in, look for the Submit Article link on the top menu and click it.

  3. Once in the Submit Article area, you have several areas that need to be completed for the article to be accepted and published.  You need to give the article a Title, enter your actual article body into the large area, select a Section (general topic, eg; NFL, NHL, etc.) and Category (specific to the topic, eg; Denver Broncos, Colorado Avalanche, etc.) and set the article to Published*Some notes before moving on, you can select to display the article on the front page but the way we have our layout it will not make a difference, so I would recommend leaving that at default.  You can also set a date that you want the article published but again, I would leave those settings as well as the Access Level at default.  Anything else and the story you submit may not appear as you expect. I also suggest adding a description to your article in the proper field as well as the addition of some key words.  See my example below, but these should be search terms you would expect people to use to find your article.
  4. Finally, once everything is entered like you would like it to appear, scroll back to the top of the page and hit the Save button.  This will put the article into a pending mode for the administrators (Lee and I) to review and look over.  We generally just make sure everything is where it needs to be and that the article is assigned to the proper section and category.  We also obviously make sure it is appropriate content.  We don't censor for sure, but we need to stay nice and legal like.
So there you have it, please feel free to send me a message or an email or post in the forums if you are having trouble. I hope this tutorial will encourage all of you to get some of your content out for all to see!
