I think the D has come back (last week big plays aside) but coverage on kick returns is horrible.

As Coach T says, there are three phases to football, we need to excel in all of them.

How bad is Special Teams?

Through 9 games the Steelers have allowed 157 points, however 63 of those points have come directly off of special teams scores or fumbles and INTs returned for TDs. So through 9 games the STEELER DEFENSE has allowed 94 points, an average of 10.4 per game. This doesn’t even count the points teams have been gift wrapped with awesome field position after turnovers or crappy kick coverage.

Last year’s defense allowed 13.9 points per game and through 9 games they had allowed 140.

Based on these stats, this years Steeler D would even be better than last year’s D if Special Teams was even average.

Interesting Stat: The vaunted 2000 Ravens defense allowed 10.3 ppg for the entire season. So in effect, the Steelers defense this year has played on the level of the 2000 Ravens.
