This week in NFL numbers (11/04 - 11/11)
Wednesday, 11 November 2009 12:33

This is a fairly straightforward piece that I have decided to write each week summing up the best and worst of the week’s NFL action. So here we go...

10 – Number of days it took Eric Mangini to tell us all what we already knew; Brady Quinn would be the starter again at the NFL’s practice squad, the Cleveland Browns. Not much of a surprise given Derek Anderson’s massive 297 yards with one TD and 3 interceptions over the last 3 games. That isn’t even taking into account his 2 completions against Buffalo. All game.

5 – Number of times NBC called the Patriots @ Colts game the ‘rivalry of the decade’. Hmmm, I know it’s a big game, but rivalry of the decade might be trying a bit too hard to get the viewing figures up. Go Colts.

1 – Number of wins the actually not too bad Buccaneers now have after bringing in their rookie QB, Josh Freeman.

117 – Number of yards my fantasy football steal Cedric Benson got against the once formidable Baltimore Ravens D. The only player to rush for 100 yards twice against them in a bazillion games. Thanks Cedric.

531 – Number of yards Miles Austin has accumulated over the past 4 games.

100 – Percent of people who didn’t even know Austin’s name before the Kansas City game, let alone pick him up in fantasy football.

21 – Seconds left on the clock when V-Jax caught the winning catch from after-thought Phil Rivers against Eli Manning. Boo hoo Eli.

8 – Number of teams linked with homophobe but still rather useful RB, Larry Johnson, cut by the Chiefs this week due to a Twitter scandal (resisting the urge to put the word ‘gate’ after Twitter like so many other people would).

369 – Number of yards thrown by Jay Cutler in their rather heavy loss to Arizona.

5 – TDs thrown by old man time, Kurt Warner in aforementioned win over the Bears.

75,000 – Capacity of the proposed Los Angeles stadium. The teams mentioned as potential suitors include the Rams, Raiders and Buccaneers. So basically a homecoming for a former L.A. team then. Southern Californians already moaning about what they will do with the stadium when the team moves elsewhere as it is too far from USC or UCLA. Now there’s optimism.

10 – Seconds it took me after seeing Troy Polamalu in another bloody commercial to realise that he is indeed an advertising whore.

17 – Point head start that the Seahawks were kind enough to give Detroit on Sunday. Just for kicks, 25 is the number of unanswered points that Seattle subsequently scored to put the Lions to bed.

...and finally

28 – Number of points I expect my Jets to put on Jacksonville this Sunday.

If I wasn't a believer in Karma, I would be wishing very bad things on Cedric Benson.
