About Me
New and improved version of the “About Me” page, revised on July 26, 2009

Your humble blogger
I am a forty-three year old African-American (or Black, if you prefer) male who resides in Talbot County on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. I have been a County resident my entire life, and I currently live in St. Michaels, Maryland, a town with 1,193 residents (per the last census). It is a small town, famous for fooling the British in the War of 1812, that now primarily functions as a tourist town for people from other states, as well as the Western Shore of Maryland. It is also the home of former Oriole Harold Baines. I am a graduate of St. Michaels Middle High School (class of 1984) and of Washington College (class of 1988), a private college which is located in Chestertown, Maryland, roughly one hour from my hometown. I hold a B.A. in Business Management and am the only person in my entire family who has graduated from a four-year institution of higher learning (a fact that I hope changes in the future). The similarities between my high school and college were that both had small enrollments, which I believe provided for more individual instruction. I believe this helped me be a good student and encouraged me to become a life long learner.
Six months after I graduated from college, I took a job in St. Michaels as an Assistant Clerk in the Town government office. I worked there for almost fifteen years, when I left to apply for and eventually accept a job as a fiscal analyst with the County government, where I currently work. I am currently married (to a Pittsburgh Steeler fan), with two stepdaughters, aged 22 and 15, whom I love as if they were my own.
I grew up a sports fan, taught early on by my elders to support the local squads through good and bad. That means that you will find me cheering for the Baltimore birds, both Orioles and Ravens. I will also root for the Maryland Terrapins, and have rooted for the Georgetown Hoyas as well. Because the former Baltimore NBA squad moved down the road to Washington, I am a Wizards fan as well. I once had visions of being an athlete myself, having played baseball and basketball before realizing that my dreams would be best met by using my brain instead of any supposed athletic gifts. So, while this blog writes about sports primarily, I wouldn’t classify it as a “sports blog.” There are many, many others of those, written by people who have more time for research and writing and talent for the same than I currently possess. I am also a fan of R&B, hip-hop and jazz music. From time to time, I will break up the monotony here with a music-related post. Like most people, I have a history with the music from my childhood, from my mother’s collection of 45’s (yes I am dating myself) to the current digital creation and consumption of music. I grew up on a steady diet of Soul Train like most African-American kids of my generation, and while I may not be the greatest dancer in the world, I don’t need a compass and a magnifying glass to find the beat in a song. I particularly am a fan of classic R&B/soul, but I can find something to like from the 60s to the present day in just about any genre of music.
This blog serves as an opportunity to express myself through the written word. I like to write, and I think I could get to be pretty good at it. That said, I don’t think I’ll be competing for any Pulitzer Prizes. Blogging here at MP gives me the opportunity to express myself on a range of topics, not necessarily limited to sports. Feel free to express yourself in the comments of my posts, if you are so inclined.
