A Bad Week For Baseball
It’s only Wednesday, and it has been a very bad week for the grand old game, the national pastime, baseball.
First A-Rod, then Miguel Tejada, and now Roberto Alomar. Steroids, AIDS, lying to federal agents, yeesh. Wake me when the Orioles begin spring training. The timing of these stories is very unfortunate, seeing as the O’s are set to begin the season in a few days. Where hope should spring eternal (or at least until the end of April), we are forced to swallow some unflattering truths about the game and the people who play it.Â
Do we want the names of the other 103 players who tested positive along with Alex Rodriguez? I don’t know, and who really cares? Basically, the game was and is tainted for the period of what is called the “steroid era,” and I suppose the focus should now be on how the game be kept “clean” from now on. I don’t think that fans of baseball are as upset as the media seems to be, but even the media isn’t of one opinion of whether it should be further outraged or frustrated or weary of all the bad news. Perhaps when the games begin, some of the tarnish will be left behind, but I’m taking the wait and see approach.
Maybe in a month or two, we won’t be thinking about these sordid tales, but moreso on how our team is doing on the field. Gosh, I can only hope so.

Isn’t that Alomar news simply mind-boggling?! I mean, before the spitting incident, he was one of my favorite players to watch. He was my son’s favorite players to watch too.
He was raped? He never told his girlfriend he tested positive? We don’t have all he details yet on this one and probably never will, except that he is getting sued for a whole lot of jack.
He had such talent. I felt bad for him today when i heard that news.
Not so for Tejada though. He can cry empty tears all he wants during the press conference…
Baseball needs to focus on keeping it clean from here on out…I don’t know about releasing all those names.
My question as to the releasing of the names is, would it really matter? I suppose to be a “completist” of sorts, or so that those who didn’t “cheat” wouldn’t be forever cast in a suspicious light, but I’m not sure it would really make that much of a difference.
The Alomar news is truly unreal. Now Robby has to come out and confirm (affirm?) that he is well:

Who knows what is truth or fiction anymore?
at this point i can hardly remember whether using steroids in pro sports is illegal or not
