Oriole Magic Plays Again
In what is becoming an almost nightly occurrence, the Orioles again came from behind to win another ballgame. Tonight’s result was a 2-1 win over the Houston Astros, a team that has now lost seven games in a row. Once again, Jeremy Guthrie pitched a gem of a game, only to find little to no support from his fellow teammates on offense, save a Luke Scott home run. If not for one pitch to Lance Berkman, Guthrie would have recorded a shutout. Nevertheless, the Orioles got it done against Jose Valverde in the bottom of the 10th inning, with three successive singles from Melvin Mora, Aubrey Huff and Kevin Millar, with Millar’s base hit delivering the game-winning run.
The Orioles are 9-4 in their last 13 games, and that’s pretty good baseball no matter how you slice it. Sure, fans would like to see more offense to go with the pitching and defense, but however it gets done isn’t really important as long as they keep stringing wins together. If this keeps up well into the summer, fans will begin trickling into Camden Yards until it looks like the old days.
