Barclays Premiership 4 loses 6 wins
Champions League 1 win 2 loses
Carling Cup knocked out in the fourth round by Arsenal
When this season is compared to this time last year when they were unbeatable it leaves so many of even the most die hard Liverpool fan wondering if it’s going to be another season without silverware and the most precious of all the Premiership Crown.
After the magic of the Champions League final in 2005 manager Rafael Benitez was hailed as a football god around the turnstiles of the Anfield Rd home ground, oh how things have changed with most of those loyal fans now wanting his head, are they right or are they wrong, all you can say is if a manager loses the respect of the fans, he’s not going to be their team manager for much longer.
Rafa ( or the Spanish Popeye as he is so named by fans ) is under pressure, he was brought into the club for one reason to win the Premiership Crown, this is has been the dream of so many Liverpool fans and players for the past nineteen years and it’s a dream that looks like has already passed for another year.
Liverpool are now lying in 5th position in the league after halting Manchaters bid for another title on Sunday in what can only be described as the game of the season so far, Liverpool won 2-0 and left Manchester shocked and looking depleted, if not for this win Rafa would have come under major pressure and would have left fans screaming for blood, but over all in the league they are 6 points behind leaders the unstoppable Chelsea so is it too little to late for the wannabe title holders?
The Champions League seems to be another nightmare for Liverpool and Benitez this year, after losing 0-2 to Fiorentina and also losing the home leg 1-2 to Lyon it’s getting harder for the fans to believe that they still have a chance.
There was a time when teams feared to home games at Anfield as Liverpool at home were an unstoppable force, but this also seems to be long gone, and some fans believe that the only good thing Rafa is at the moment doing for the club is saving the club money on Trophy cabinets.
So the big question is how long more will both club and fans be happy to sit back and wait for the Premiership title??
But what the fans have to remember in all sports is that the manager is responsibility for managing the team, but the team needs to share some of the blame, at the end of the day the eleven players on the pitch have to have the desire and the passion to win,,,,,
But like they said in the KOP end stand if Liverpool are winning cheer loud, if Liverpool and losing cheer louder.
