Kindle apps

Postby ptrain86 » April 12th, 2012, 9:46 am

Is there a way to block purchasing on it, but allow internet access? My youngest bought an app and I would like to disallow the option to buy. They have an option to block the internet, but they do like to go on the internet on there and I don't remember always to shut it down completely when I'm done, so the internet is still on when they get on it. Otherwise, it requires a password. I don't think she'll buy anything again after our "chat", but I wanted to make sure. I sent an email out to Amazon as well, but the last time I did it, all I got was the internet block option and some rude woman accusing me of lying about purchasing stuff using the one click option.

Do they have an option to require a password when making a purchase? My iPad has that setting, which brings up the password dialog when buying or updating apps, but leaves the internet untouched.

That's what I would want. I looked around settings and couldn't find it. Hoping someone in here would know about it. It would make sense.

It seems on the Kindle you can only prevent in-app purchases. Which doesn't fully solve your problem.

However, there is an app called Seal. There is a free version and a $3 version with addition functionality. Seal allows you to lock down applications. In your case it would be the Android Market. When someone tries to access the market, Seal will ask for a password, and without the password, the app won't launch. And since the Market is actually being called up for in-app content, Seal will work exactly the same for that situation. No one will be able to pop open an app and buy things without your say-so.

Thanks YEM. That's the response I just got from Amazon. Seems pretty dumb, but it is actually what my daughter had done. It was an in app purchase. They did say they would reimburse me, which I couldn't believe. Its only 5 bucks, but I wanted to try and avoid having it continually happen. thanks much!
