I usually only fast travel during quests and if I'm still playing 2 hours or more past what I'm supposed to be and am like holy shit, I need to get to bed (for like the 5th time). What's funny about renting Skyrim is I bought Mafia II and LA Noire. Though, I must say both games are very good.

I just went to visit the graybeards today and can I just say, if these guys are so f-ing powerful why can't they kill that mother scratching yeti that's lurking on the path to their hideaway? I tried and tried and tried and couldn't even get that guy down to 3/4 health without him hitting me twice and killing me. Finally i just ran my ass off. Isn't this game supposed to scale to your level?

I had the same problem when I went up to visit those graybeards...I finally did just as you: RAN! I'm guessing there are situations in this game where avoiding the fight might be the best and most logical choice...Also, during the load screens, I've seen a message concerning changing the difficulty of combat. I refuse to dial my difficulty down, but I suppose this could prove useful if you are completely stuck in a treacherous situation.

But there's no shame in running...

I've found that always having a companion is beneficial, especially in situations where I need my enemies to be distracted so I can recover.

I stumbled upon a dragon, the first one other than that story-related one. I am a huge, hammer-swinging Orc. The damn dragon never lands on the ground. After 5 or 6 attempts and deaths I gave up. Does the game force you to be an archer to take down dragons?

It'll land eventually. Helps to weaken it with shouts, too. There is also the option of just running away if you can't take it out yet.

Do you have a companion yet? I think you get Lydia in Whiterun pretty early on. Give her a bow and she'll shoot for you.

Yes i have the 'housecarl' but I haven't taken her anywhere yet. There is also another guy I think I can take as a companion he challenged me to a fistfight and I beat the crap out of him

Take her with you everywhere. You can give her armor and upgraded weapons and she can really do some damage. Only crappy part is that you can't set tactics for her, though she will sneak if you are sneaking, etc. I think that once somebody becomes hostile, though, she is balls out kill that fucker.

Another huge benefit is that she will carry all your loot, too.

I like that I can rob a house where everyone is sleeping through a dog barking at me. Yet if the dog sees me steal something I get a $5 bounty. Who is the dog going to tell?
