Urban Meyer to OSU?

Hey, just because he bought a house a couple of miles from campus a while back and that OSU will want to hire a big name coach isn't any reason to think it's more than a rumor, right? Meyer might be just what this program needs to get back on its feet in an increasingly competitive Big Ten.

They continue to deny it's happening, but he's been living there for a year or so now while doing stuff for ESPN. And I mean he is practically walking distance to campus. Just seems like an exceptionally odd move to go from Utah to Florida to Columbus if not for something we don't know.

I can neither confirm or deny it, but the hypothetical deal could or couldn't be made public by Tuesday. Hypothetically speaking, of course.

That would make me pretty hypothetically happy, although I think Fickel deserves some consideration for the job he's done this year under difficult circumstances.

The folks I know are pretty reliable about the information they talk about, but mistakes can happen. And I do agree that Fickel should get a shot at the job, but is supposed to stay on as assistant head coach.

I believe that Fickel will be a great head coach one day. He just got pushed into a job that he -- or anyone -- wouldn't be ready for. I could see him being very successful at a MAC school for a few years and then coming back to Columbus. If he would want to, of course.

Well, since Miller will be a sophomore next season, does that put the over/under for years Meyer stays at OSU at 3?

I think he will stay longer. The thing with UF was having to compete with all the other Florida schools to get in state talent. Fisher at FSU is a great recruiter as well as Golden at Miami and Skip Holtz is doing good things at South Florida. He will have no one to compete with for Ohio talent except Michigan and will even steal some State Penn commits also. He will still get Florida speed but I am willing to bet that Fisher and Golden beat him out on 70% of the guys he goes after in the sunshine state. Getting a Florida kid to play in cold Ohio winters could be a tough sell. Also the not having to play Bama and LSU will make his job easier.
