Star Wars: The Old Republic

Postby miketheknife » November 8th, 2011, 1:02 pm

I think I remember Gwildor and maybe Clem's kid are going to be getting this? Anyone else (except of course Jammer)? I started reading threads about it and man am I excited. I was huge into Star Wars Galaxies at launch and this sounds like that only newer. Which is fine with me.

I should say, like Galaxies without all the crafting. It seems to be all about combat.

Yep but this one I'm pretty sure I'll stick with. That Warcraft situation just pissed me off, I overreacted for sure.

no that's not where I was going with it

so from what I am reading, it's similar in that you can follow your own thing or team up with buddies?

I am sure they'll have that, it's pretty standard MMO operation. However I am still trying to figure out something. It appears in this game you'll have 'companions' in the usual Bioware style, and they will be able to have conversations with you, start missions, etc. I have never played an MMO with any dynamic like that and I'm wondering how it will work, like if you have a 'group' to yourself and group up with another player character, how that will work out.

Games like this make me wish I was still in college and had 20 hours a day to play video games and drink.

I know it could all be blowing smoke but I like hearing stuff like this

"The game is not aimed at the Hardcore player but the Star Wars, RPG and Bioware Fans- GamesRadar"

"The aim is to remove Grinding - Bioware/Holonet"

"There are definitely penalties to death, but they do not involve 'undoing' a player's previous achievements (e.g. negative XP), hampering future progress (e.g. XP debt) or forcing the player to sit by unable to play the game they have paid for (e.g. forced timeouts). - Bioware"

I read something that said they want to make it accessible to almost everyone. WoW is that way, if you have a crappy computer you get crappy graphics.

I found this list of specs. I actually have no freaking clue what the specs on my laptop are.

OS - Windows XP, Vista/7
CPU - AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+ or better Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.0GHz or better
RAM - Windows XP: 1.5GB Windows Vista and Windows 7: 2GB PCs using a built-in graphical chipset, 2GB RAM recommended.
Video - ATI X1800 or better* nVidia 7800 or better* Intel 4100 Integrated Graphics or better*
DVD-ROM - 8x or better
Hard Drive - Currently you need around 27GB of free space on your hard drive. - Bioware
*Minimum of 256MB of on-board RAM and Shader 3.0 or better support.
NOTE: - Internet connection required to play

DomoClem is getting it. I just can't do it. I'll get hooked way too hard and my marriage will end and I'll lose my job. I honestly don't even want Domo to have it because bringing it into my house is going to be like brining in a Nutella crack machine.

I have been on the fence with this. If they can take the grindey bits out then I am sold. After trying WoW and LOTRO for a bit, I quit after having to fetch some magical toe cream from the land beyond Nod just because I am supposed to do dumb quests for an old lady who for some reason gets to control xp allotments.
