Jammer's Journal

Postby Jammer » June 6th, 2011, 2:34 pm

Went to the gym today and did my free hour with a trainer. I basically have a game plan already so it was more of having her help me understand their specific equipment a bit better.

Being an at home Dad gives me the advantage to go during the day and not have a slew of people using the equipment there. I am going to focus on strength training with some cardio to help lose a few pounds about 10 - 15. I hide the extra weight well and my trainer mentioned that I looked to be in pretty good shape.

For now I plan to do light cardio on my lifting days (M,W,F) and then run or maybe do a spinning class on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

That's what I do. I drop the little girl off at preschool then go to the gym. I have both the kids on Fridays, so I hit the weights hard on M W with light cardio and try to hit the cardio heavier on T Th. It will pay off....trust me.

Glad to see you back in the gym.

Heading out in a bit to go workout and will be doing cardio (god I hate cardio) but trying to decide if I want to use the treadmill or a precor.

Went ahead and did the elliptical today with a bit of a warmup for 15 minutes, then did an interval back and forth with resistance and height for 30 minutes, before a brisk pace level at the end.

Ended up doing about 3 1/4 miles and burning about 500 calories today during the workout. Also very proud of my wife (who I am trying to get to create her own journal) as she committed to a personal trainer today to help push her towards her goals.

Congrats man! I have to say, I've been working out with a personal trainer 2 days a week, and it makes a huge difference, not only from a motivational stand point, but the fact that they show you the right way to do things. Now I can work out 3 days a week without him and know I'm not just wasting my time.

Keep up the good work - you and the wife!

Did a brisk walk on the treadmill for 10 minutes to get my heart moving before lifting. Went through the circuit and it will take a bit of time to get the weights down and a good feel for my routine.

Hit cardio today and am trying not to push myself as I get back in shape. Did 20 minutes on the elliptical before doing another 30 on the treadmill going about 3.5 miles. Nice thing about going in the morning is I can actually watch SportsCenter again which I haven't been able to without ESPN in the home.

Got my 10 minute warm up in on the treadmill before going station to station with the weights. Plan to take Saturday and Sunday off before lifting weights again on Monday.

Didn't feel like going yesterday but sucked it up and made my way to the gym to keep up with my schedule and lifted. Today is cardio day which I dread besides getting to watch an hour of SportsCenter.

Mondays will be the challenge for me since I plan on taking Sat and Sun off.

Did 45 minutes on the treadmill today for cardio. I haven't ran in a long time so I am just slowly trying to build myself up. Stuck at 4 mph for the first 40 minutes before upping it to 6 mph for the last 5 which I really had to push myself to do.

Cardio day today which is a love/hate thing. Tomorrow is supposed to be a lifting day but not sure what I want to do with me playing a ton of golf Thursday through Sunday.

The big challenge will be Monday when the rest of the family is away and I haven't gone in days. It will take effort to get motivated to go.

just my .02 but don't let Golf stop you from doing at least some light lifting

it will not have as much of an adverse affect on you as you think, the key will be stretching however

Yeah I might go with a bit less weight on Wednesday or just focus on the lower half of the body. Over the course of 4 days I could be playing around 100 holes of golf (72 at a minimum) and with how I play that will be a lot of arm movement swinging the clubs!
