Stoner Rock

Any of you old Metal guys that haven't already gotten into the Stoner Rock genre, really need to check some of these bands out. They range from Dio and Maiden type riffs, slow power funk grooves to punk. Some of my favorites are Mastodon(good friends of my oldest brother), Fu Manchu, Alabama Thunderpussy, Clutch(probably the most mainstream). I know Rhapsody has it as its own genre, I'm not sure if Pandora has also.

Loooooove Clutch (seen them live 3 times), Mastodon (how incredibly awesome is 'Crack The Skye'?), Kyuss, The Sword, Unida, and many others of the genre.
That's pretty cool that your brother knows Mastodon. I'm sure there are some good stories to be told.

Brains, ever hear of a band called Sasquatch? Latest disc 'III' came out last year. Worth checking out.

That would've been a hell of a show, two bands I really love.

My brother was part of the Atlanta music scene for about 15 years and got to know and play with a lot of really cool musicians. He shared a practice space with Mastodon and also Sevendust.

I love Crack The Skye, Leviathan is probably my favorite Mastodon album though. I'll have to check out Sasquatch also.

Very cool. Good music scene around Atlanta.

I like Matodon's older material as well but I can never tire of 'Crack The Skye'. It was in constant rotation in my truck most of last year. I almost picked up the new live disc/dvd recently.
Sasquatch isn't as...."proggy" as some of the others but it's certainly in the same vein, maybe a touch like bands Fireball Ministry or House Of Broken Promises.
Am I assuming you have The Sword's newest 'Warp Riders'? If not, make it so!

I'm a huge Clutch fan.....I really like the older Mastodon stuff, but also will listen to the new stuff. Damn, Kyuss's Blues for the Red Sun is still one of my favorite stoner rock ablums. You can't forget Dozer, Electric Wizard, Orange Goblin, or Sleep.

Since you're a fan of Sleep, I'm assuming you also like High On Fire...another great stoner rock band I forgot to mention, along with The Melvins(huge fan).

I saw this article this morning:
Legendary stoner rock band SLEEP has just announced a string of summer North American tour dates. On the heels of its sold-out U.S. tour run last September, the California trio will return to the stage this summer by popular demand. Live dates in New York City (June 22) and Los Angeles (June 26) will bookend an appearance at the Sled Island Music & Arts Festival in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on June 24, where the group will share the stage with THE DANDY WARHOLS, BLONDE REDHEAD, THE BUZZCOCKS and more.

SLEEP tour dates:

June 22 - New York, NY - Terminal 5
June 24 - Calgary, AB - Sled Island Festival
June 26 - Los Angeles, CA - The Wiltern

Once referred to as "the ultimate stoner rock band", SLEEP evolved in the early 1990s and has exerted a considerable, consistent influence on modern heavy music ever since. The group split in 1997 after the release of two hugely influential albums — "Holy Mountain" and "Dopesmoker" — returning triumphantly in 2009 when it performed two U.K. shows as part of All Tomorrow's Parties' (ATP) The Fans Strike Back festival, playing "Holy Mountain" in its entirety along with selections from "Dopesmoker". The rabid fan response to the 2009 shows resulted in a run of U.S. live dates in September 2010 that immediately sold out. In celebrating the band's return, The New York Times referred to the trio as "excellent" and the Chicago Tribune called SLEEP "stoner-rock titans."

I wouldn't have a problem with that. :D We'll just have to stay on the lookout as Sept gets closer.
