For those looking to expand their modern blues catalog I highly suggest the phenomenal new Walter Trout disc 'Blues For The Modern Daze'.

I need to warn you ahead of time that it is some awesome summertime beer drinking music.

I listened to that on Spotify at lunchtime and will definitely be buying it. I have never known much about blues but you guys come up with some awesome recommendations. I play the shit out of that Albert Hall album you guys pimped a while back.

I had the pleasure of seeing Bonamassa in concert last night, on his 35th birthday no less. The guy puts on an incredible show. He went non-stop for over 2 hrs and his voice never cracked and very few notes were missed. Probably the best show sound wise I've ever seen. He changed guitars at least 10 times. If you like his music on album, you will not be disappointed live. His band are also superb musicians and were equally impressive.

Kick ass. Full band (dual drums/horns/etc) show like the Albert Hall dvd or more stripped down?

That would have been cool to see the full Albert Hall band, but this was just his normal touring band. A drummer, Bass player and keyboard/pianist.

Which I'm sure made it even more impressive.

You guys have really gotten me interested in blues. I have been listening to Joe Bonamassa a bunch. Amazon started giving me suggestions based on what i've been buying and lately I've been checking out the Derek Trucks band and Tedeschi Trucks band. Any thoughts on these guys? I don't have any idea what the 'cool' blues bands are but I really am liking their stuff.

I've still been listening to the new Walter Trout quite a bit and the new Bonamassa comes out tomorrow.

Derek Trucks is really talented but as for some of the younger, modern guys I prefer the first Jonny Lang disc 'Lie To Me' and the first few Kenny Wayned Shepherd releases. Make sure you check out the Tab Benoit stuff we were discussing earlier in this thread also.

I guess it depends on what blues style you like. When I get chance this week I'll look through my external harddrive for some other recommendations.

This thread has been going on so long that I had forgotten to re-read the first 6 pages. I started myself a Bonamassa channel on LastFm and tons of stuff comes up there. Kenny Wayne Shepherd is frequently on there and yes he is awesome but I see that sabres recommended him in this thread early on so I can't force myself to start listening.
