Mike Williams - DUI

Postby RayRay » November 22nd, 2010, 8:34 pm

TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie wide receiver Michael Williams was charged with DUI early Friday after Florida authorities spotted his black Escalade speeding and weaving in and out of traffic.

Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies said the 23-year-old football star's eyes were glassy and he smelled like alcohol when they pulled him over around 2:30 a.m. According to a breathalyzer test, Williams had .065 blood-alcohol level, which is below Florida's 0.08 percent legal limit

I have never, ever understood why pro athletes, even if you're making your league's minimum, don't HIRE SOMEBODY TO DRIVE YOUR DRUNK ASS AROUND. Hell, if Adam Jones called me right now and offered me $40K/year to be his on-call driver I'd do it. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Yea I am torn on this one. I am not going to hate him for blowing a .065, but driving like a jackass at that time is just inviting trouble. The only time I have come close to a DUI was when I was a 21 year old Lance Corporal and got pulled for "leaving the club." Stopped drinking early in the night, driving someone elses car with a temporary tag (the reason the cop gave for pulling me over). I was honest and told him I had a couple beers early but had stopped since I was driving hours ago. Passed a field sobriety test, blew a .112, passed a second much more difficult soriety test. Thankfully I was let go becuase I passed the tests as it would have killed my short 5 year Marine Corps career and we had to find another way home. Since then if I have had a drink I don't drive at all.

I am not condoning his actions at all, especially driving like that at a time when cops are going to be more suspicious. If his drug test from the police comes back clean I would be ok with the charges of DUI being dropped, but getting wreckless drving. Thats just my POV though.

There's a big difference in my eyes between not getting a DUI because you've never been caught, vs. not getting a DUI because you never drive drunk. I only say this because when I got a DUI years back, one day the secretary at work pulled some smug shit on me about it and I went ballistic. I knew of more than one occasion when she'd driven drunk, once even refusing my offer of a ride and sneaking out of the bar so she could drive herself home. So that soapbox crap pissed me off.

Nowadays I use cabs, and I'm not even a rich shitbag, just a normal one. So these fucks with money have no excuse whatsoever, absolutely none.

Buddy of mine got busted a few years back driving home from the bar that was 1/2 a mile or so down the street from his house. Talk about bad luck and bad decisions. Now he doesn't drive drunk anymore.

I don't even come close to chancing it anymore, that was a long time ago

The last time actually I remember very well, I was in the Navy and my buddy/room mate and I were just wasted...I think I drove because I found the keys first. About 3 blocks from our place they had a DUI random check point...they stopped the 2 cars in front of us and let us pass.

I seriously was shitting myself...DUI in the Navy is instant bad news.

I haven't done it in a really long time and wouldn't think about doing it now.

Someone in my office got a DUI and watching the legal BS you have to go through plus the cost is reason enough (Aside from the possibility of killing someone) to not do this...ever. I kept my wife preggo for a few years to keep my DD going.
