Draft talk, trades, ect

Eh?

Draft talk, trades, ect

Postby Falling Man » June 22nd, 2012, 8:53 pm

Well I am quite pleased to be bringing Jordan Staal from the Pens (although Sutter will be sorely missed) to the Canes along side his brother but (knowing the way GM Rutherford operates) I am very scared of the fact that he has only 1 yr left on his contract.

Overall happy with the Caps off-season thus far. Would have like to see Hunter back but Adam Oates as HC is exciting.

Trading for Mike Ribiero helps IM(limited)O and gives the team more consistency.

Whats not to like about getting Forsberg at 11 in the draft. Tom Wilson at 16 surprised people it looks like, but the best defense is a good offense.

Check

Signed for the same 10yr $60M extension the Pens offered. I can deal with that cap hit especially if he turns Eric into a full 82 game player instead of disappearing half a season

Rangers lost Brandon Prust and John Mitchell this weekend. Prust will be missed, Rangers were not willing to pay 2mil plus a year like the Canadians did.

I am interested to see if the Rangers are still trying to work a deal with Columbus for Nash and what they are going to give up.

Canes have been pretty aggressive with offers. I approve.

Parise and Suter going to the Wild as of yesterday for a buttload of cash. Will they make an impact, sure but I just do not see these two guys worth that kind of cash.

He checked all the boxes when homegrown winger Zach Parise and defenseman Ryan Suter signed 13-year contracts worth $98 million. The $196 million commitment was $66 million more than the cost to build the Xcel Energy Center. It was $29 million less than he paid for the entire franchise in 2008.

That amounts to them being $8.75 million players through their 35th birthdays.
The only three players who have cap hits exceeding $8.75 million, the average salary of Parise and Suter for the first eight seasons, are Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.

Agreed. That's a lot of money and a big gamble. Super-long contracts like that have always baffled me.

It's not the length of the deal that gets me, it's the front load. It's a fact of life to have a new CBA every 5-7 years and when these guys sign a 10 yr deal that pays them $1M at age 40-43 it's just bullshit. The owners know they'll be able to get around it through some type of amnesty buyout. I didn't think much of it at the time but I like the penalty NJD had when trying to sign Kovy. Wish that happened more often-and notice what franchise is concerned with being financially crippled lately....

Speaking of salary caps - is there anything more confusing than the NBA system? I can't figure that sign trade, amnesty, league vet exemption, min salary crap for the life of me.

Shea Weber (NSH restricted free agent D) signed to a 14 year deal worth $100M+. Nashville can either match or Philly can sign him and lose a shitload of draft picks

Don't like the deal but think the Preds will keep him plus it blocks the chance of the Rangers getting him.

Looks that way, no concrete details but I did find this:
The deal, according to Dreger, will net the Blue Jackets four assets: forward Brandon Dubinsky, defenseman Tim Erixon, a first-round draft pick and another piece yet unknown.

Guess who's jersey I bought two years ago ...hmmm fuck.

I also just read this :
According to Dreger, the Rangers have traded Brandon Dubinsky, Tim Erixon, Artem Anisimov and a first-round pick for Nash.
