I bet Megadeth's Devil's Island is better than this game.

Played for a couple hours tonight, and so far I like it. It's basically an RPG zombie game with leveling, leveled weapons (and a lot of them), quests and a lot of fun. Jammer and I tried the co-op a little which I believe they will need to fix with quests, but it was smooth otherwise. I say they need to fix it because, there was a quest he had already finished and I hadn't yet towards the beginning where you have to clear out the light house and radio to your buddy which I (we) did but the part where I had to radio my buddy wasn't available for some reason. After he left the game, I backed out totally and went back in and it was there...so there is obviously some problem with single player progress and co-op somehow...I know a patch was talked about so we will have to look into it or ask our distant buddy Aubrey.

Otherwise, it's what I was expecting...zombie killing with missions and lots of it, I will be playing the shit out of this. It has that Left 4 Dead meets Borderlands feel to me which is a really good thing. Voice acting is a little cheesy but I think that's by design, the characters are pretty funny. One quest I had to use a truck to get from point A to point B and I must have spent an extra 10 minutes just mowing fuckers down.

So far, so good and I hope it doesn't get lost in the shuffle. A lot of that for me will depend on how the devs maintain the game.

I did the same, very satisfying. Somehow I ended up on the beach in a truck and I proceeded to mow down everything in sight. Vehicles are going to be very crucial for getting around the island, I found out the hard way when I decided to trek to the gas station and proceeded to die numerous times.

I am up to about Chapter 2 and level 7, I am digging it. I love the sounds the zombies make as you walk up on them. I also like how you could walk by a zombie that is laying on the ground and they will all of a sudden get up and pounce you. Had a few oh shit moments with them.

I am having a hard time aiming for the head/timing my melee shots correct but as you level up and your weapons progress I am thinking it will be easier for single blows to kill. I have hacked a few limbs off by accident and it has some very cool animations to go along with it.

Dead Island

Postby Jammer » September 7th, 2011, 7:09 am

Enjoying the quests and leveling aspect of the game. As said voice acting is weak and graphics are ok but the bottom line is I had fun playing and didn't want to put the game down after 3 hours.

Weapons do fall apart quickly but there are plenty of things out there to pick up when something is broken. If you find a workbench repair things early as letting an item get really damaged becomes expensive to fix.

Rabb, I wonder if the co-op issue was from me joining your game and being done with that mission. I thought I had read that higher level players can't join a lower level game but lower can join a higher. One review recommended like Borderlands to have a few different level characters saved.

Well, we proved that wrong because you COULD join me. I would tend to agree, but when you left the game it should have "fixed" itself without me having to back out and go back in.

Also, at the workbench you can create new weapons with items you have picked up, which is pretty awesome.

So is it free-roam kinda like the GTA series where you go at your own pace or is there really a focused storyline where the next mission is defined?
Fuck-it list: Owls, Ohio, Facebook, Red Wings.

Yes swinging a baseball bat that is loaded with nails is quite fun.

Both from what I see. There is a main quest line and a shit ton of side ones but you could realistically just roam and murder I think.

Also Jammer, I have been looking and am pretty sure the patch you mentioned is for the PC, I cannot get confirmation of a console patch yet.

You can definitely just roam around and bash zombies; I did it for a good hour last night. Also as you are on your way to main story quest you will find mini quests through out the map. As early as I am in the story at one point I had at least ten quests in my queue which I think is killer cause you can just roam around aimlessly looting.

What character did you guys choose? I choose the chick that is proficient with guns. I bought her rage perk, when enabled you go into rage with a six shooter and just plain gun fuckers down. Win!

I am the rapper dude that is good with blunt weapons. Yeah Lamb I have a ton of quests to complete right now which I am enjoying.

Like GTA you can roam around and do whatever but certain parts of the island are unlocked until you get to a certain point in the main quest.

Are there time limits to any of the quests (main or side quests) that would cause you to fail them if you're just doing the "open world exploration" thing?
