reddit thread

There's a thread at reddit http://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/rug8h/fuck_this_guy/ that starts with this picture

And of course people are calling for his head. All sorts of 'righteous' indignation. I wanted to post the thread that I found really interesting. I think the final line in my quote here is AWESOME. I don't hunt myself but i know most of you guys do so you may find it amusing.

I'm a hunter. i hunt squirrel, rabbit, deer, ducks, turkey. Just about any damn thing i can eat.
I fucking HATE trappers. Unless you're trapping humanely in a cage, fuck you.

Why do you hunt? I'm not being a troll or anything, I'm just wondering, whats the drive behind it?

I'm a hunter and will chime in. It's extremely fun to use a weapon to take down an animal that you can clean and eat afterwards. It's not one single thing. It's the work you put in to setting up decoys when shooting waterfowl, it's the camaraderie with your hunting buddies and family, and it's the years of target practice you've put in to be able to quickly swivel in any direction and shoot something out of the air or the ability to lead a deer and put your bullet right on target. A hunter really shouldn't have to justify himself, people have been killing animals for thousands of years it's our right as long as it isn't destructive to the animal populations. If you eat meat you absolutely aren't allowed to criticize hunters period. I would never shoot an endangered or threatened animal.

i eat meat, do not hunt, and find people who kill for pleasure to be socially backward and potentially dangerous. why should i not be able to say so? the difference in my habit is simply i don't enjoy taking the life of an animal.

Good for you, we aren't. I find people like you socially backwards. Your habit is to eat things and not think about where they came from, that's about as backwards as it gets.

I don't really agree with trapping, but that is just me...unless you are stuck in the woods and about to die then all bets are off.

One thing I love is when people give me shit about hunting which happens a whole lot being in liberal Colorado (which is weird to me since it's such an outdoor activity state). There is a reason states allow people to hunt, most of these animals would just die from overpopulation.

My opinion is very jaded though, mid-western raised NRA card holder and all.

I'm liberal on a lot of issues but this ain't one of them. Take deer for example. This is a problem is most states but I'm familiar with MD. The levels of white tail deer herds is way more than our environment can handle and at current levels is extremely dangerous for the deer as well. Without population control by hunters these herds will starve to death-period. They destroy crops and plants that lead to erosion which in turn further hurts the Chesapeake Bay and other plants/animals. In areas where hunting has been limited or outlawed the deer have been destructive to levels never thought imaginable to include them eating things never previously seen in their diet.
I think anti-hunting folks think that deer hunters go into the woods, shoot an animal, high five and go home. If not for hunting, these tree hugging asshats wouldn't be here in the first place.

I'm not a fan of trapping either unless under the circumstance Rabb mentioned.

bingo

my other fave thing is that anyone anti-hunting that eats pork or beef...I guess it's better to raise animals for slaughter than to hunt for population control

and PS - I would wager none of them have been to a slaughterhouse, because that is not a fun thing
