Star Wars: The Old Republic

A place for PC gaming talk. Whether it's Steam or, RIP, SWTOR.

This is what they list as the minimum. I hope it's like WoW and it scales according to your setup because I have no idea what's in my laptop video-card-wise.

Minimum System Requirements

OS: Windows XP (SP3)/ Vista / Windows 7
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4000 or better / Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.0 Ghz or better
RAM: Windows XP - 1.5 GB, Windows Vista and Windows 7 - 2 GB, PCs using a built-in graphical chipset - 2 GB recommended
Video Card: ATI X1800 or better*, nVidia 7800 or better*, Intel 4100 Integrated Graphics or better*
DVD-ROM: 8x or better

* Minimum of 256 MB of onboard RAM and Shader 3.0 or better support.

I had to ratchet up Domo's processor and video card -- and get a power supply that could run the video card. If I do my system, I'll just need a new video card and power supply -- probably the same I did on my boy's PC. So I'd be looking at $200-300 for me to get into the game, plus the $30/month to cover both of our subscriptions.

I figure I might wind up giving in around the time that Domo is hitting his second or third character play through.

Installing on Domo's PC right now. This thing is massive. Right now we're on Main Assets (12+ GB). I have no idea how much more is after that.

If we do want a guild, we need to decide on some things.

Republic or Empire

PvP or PvE or RP

I'll talk to Connor (Domo) and see what he has in mind. I'm sure he's told me like a dozen times, but I've started tuning him out because he just won't STFU about the game. I do know he plans on playing a bounty hunter.

Domo agrees. He also leans towards PvE for the first run through.

Yeah PvP sucks until you get somewhat established in the game

HaHa what a Nurd!

Republic-But not a big deal really either way though.
PvP-My nerdom ends there. No RP for me, that is just a step away from LARPing, and not a step I am ready to take.

I don't think PvP means roleplaying necessarily, it just means you battle against other players right?

In SW Galaxies you had to actually set your tag to empire or rebellion and that would allow you to attack or be attacked by players of the other faction at any time who had their tag set. So if you wanted to just hang around and hunt AI all the time you could do it without being attacked by level 50 assholes out of the blue everywhere.

Sorry didn't mean for it to sound that way. To expose my level of NURD, like you didn't know. PvP for me because I do enjoy the threat of having to keep looking over your shoulder for bad guys, but it does suck when some jerkhole just decides to just murder lowbies. RP is too much for me though. I do leave the RP channel open just to see what other people are typing which is good for a laugh sometimes.

LOTRO was PvE only really, PvP was outside the core game, and for me it lacked something because I never had to worry about a bad guy that wasn't a mob. Which is nice starting out but it got stale starting to get into the higher levels only having to worry about running around and getting that mystical toejam of Scree for the dwarf with turf toe. Raids/dungeons were fun and all but can't be the only thing to do IMO.

Sorry for the long response, work is slow today.
