Tailgate365 recently had the opportunity to interview former Kentucky Wildcat wide receiver Dicky Lyons as he prepares for the upcoming NFL draft. Thanks to Shawn Smith at XAM Sports for making it happen.
TG - How is the rehab going?
DL - Rehab is going great. I am taking it one day at a time and am 100% focused on getting back on the field.
TG - Do you have a timetable for getting back to full speed?
DL - My goal is to be full speed by NFL training camp. That is the most important time for a rookie so I know I want to be ready for August. So I am trying not to rush my rehab and have any setbacks. I am focused on rehabbing the right way.
TG - Your father's jersey was retired at Kentucky. What was it like to follow in his footsteps as a Wildcat wide receiver?
DL - My father has always been my hero and the joy he experienced watching me play at Kentucky was worth every thing in the world to me.
TG - When you were injured, messages boards were filled with well wishes from other SEC fans. How does it feel to have Alabama and Florida fans pulling for you considering the heated rivalries on the field?
DL - The support I received from all of the fans around the SEC was more than I could have asked for. The pleasure was all mine. I loved every minute of playing and I was just glad that they enjoyed watching me play, because it was the best time of my life.
TG - Who was the best player you faced in your career?
DL - I couldn't tell you who the best was because I was always focused on my job, getting open, and never really paid attention to the defensive player. I know I had to work really hard to get open against Alabama.
TG - Growing up was there an NFL team you dreamed about playing for?
DL - The Saints, because my father played for the Saints and he was my hero growing up.
TG - Have you ever played as yourself in the NCAA Football video games?
DL - Yes, I only play with myself and only throw it to myself every play, so I usually lose because just double me, but I still throw it.
TG - What would we find on your IPod?
DL - Hank Williams Sr. and Jr., Elvis Presley, George Strait, Pink Floyd, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, Etc.
TG - And now we want to give you a chance to brag a little with a simple question. Dicky Lyons, why are you so awesome?
DL - Because God created everyone awesome and I was blessed with a great Family and the love of my beautiful Wife, Mindy! (Plus I am really good at football:)
